AU-50. Not enough luster for high AU. (An AU-58 coin should be a lightly-circulated coin with GREAT eye appeal. This one does not have good eye appeal.)
That is a very odd looking coin. Way too much chatter in fields given the rest of the coin. What gives? Is it prooflike? Presuming it is, and that's what I'm seeing, then I'd estimate grade around 58 or 55. So I'll guess it did grade at 58, but with the disclaimer that I am TERRIBLE at grading prooflike coins from photos, and even low grade mint state would not surprise me.
My thoughts exactly... MS61 PL. I'm no expert, but it certainly doesn't seem to have wear to me, looks more like a slightly weak strike resulting in a lack of detail in the high areas.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the op's question, Did it grade, not what did it grade? If I'm wrong MS 61
The more I look at this coin , it looks like it was polished or something , hope I'm wrong and it's some sort of haze on a prooflike coin . rzage
Just about everything I am seeing on that coin look like die scratches to me. The devises are relatively clean and d the lines that I can see the best appear to be raised. I am going to guess MS64 PL despite the fact I can think of no reason for so many scratches.
Sorry. I lost track of this thread. Several nailed it. It is PL but not enough to get that on the holder. It came back AU-58. Have never really understood how a coin with this much chatter could grade so high. I have been fooled many times by this look. It looks better in hand but wanted the chatter to show in the images.
Glad you got a grade , wish I could see that coin in hand . I bought a TD in an old green rattler slabbed MS-61 had an good strike ( for a TD ) but had all those splotches on it , when I took a picture of it all you could see were splotches . Took it back and they said they were going to dip it , this at one of the largest dealers in Chicago . rzage
