IMG_2383.JPG IMG_2382.JPG A friend texted me today asking me about this coin. I haven't gotten home yet to research it, but I figured I'd post it and get opinions which I think my friend will appreciate regardless.

What do you think of this (obviously cleaned) copper?

The little "R" to the left of the eagle's talons stands for replica - and it does have the look of a cast piece.

The bad news is that it's not a coin
    produced in 1788.

Good news is that it has all the right qualities of a Evanston Restrike!

    So it's likely a restrike?

The Evanson restrikes were die struck, this appears to be one of the common cast replicas.

It is a replica, most likely made sometime in the latter half of the 20th century.
