It appears to be short on the “red” part of “R&B” in my opinion. I am also not a fan of the toning spot in front of the bridge of Lincoln’s nose. The MS-65 coins I buy have no major distractions. I would have been okay with MS-64 with an “R&B” for eye appeal, but I don’t like it as an MS-65.
That’s a good looking matte proof. Nice color. I don’t see any problem with it. It all depend on price. 1911’s are among the more available examples of the MPL years. Here is the TrueView, which probably makes it look a little more red than it actually is. It really looks pretty clean for a 1911.
The irritating aspect of “True View” is that it makes coins look better than they are. I view it as something akin to the “glamor shots” for the girl in the high school year book who had acne and scares who now looks like Miss America. Now some auction houses are using “True View” photos for their auction lots. That is just plain wrong and deceptive. If all auction houses start doing that, buying on-line will become impossible. If you look at the picture in the previous post, the red aspects of the coin have been juiced. No copper coin looks like that in person.
It is true that in many cases the saturation is elevated or with a red bias. I don't believe the poster is as concerned with the color as they are with opinions on the coin itself. While the TV color is off (the color is actually something in between), the ability to show the surface and detail more clearly than the OP photos. The detail of the coin is extremely good, especially for a PR65, and it isn't something the TrueView did artificially.
It's a terrific looking specimen. I think that the TrueView adds...and detracts. To Bob's comments, the TrueView allows a closer look at the details and surface, but it does overly enhance the 'rainbow' present. For that, the OP's photos serve as a better indicator. I suspect that Bob is probably right on the color, given his experience with the matte proofs and TrueView...something in between.
I thought I was gonna see another roadkill Zincoln when I clicked in from the title, so this was a pleasant surprise. I like the coin. I do think it should have been a BN rather than RB, but that distinction seldom means anything to me personally when there's attractive toning involved. The little flyspecks/carbon spots would not be a dealbreaker as far as I'm concerned. They're subtle enough.
