I am posting this for my brother. He bought this on eBay and it arrived today. He has a few questions and I know nothing about gold.

It's raw and circulated. He paid $208 + $8 S&H. When he got the coin, he noticed a mark near the L in LIBERTY. Upon closer examination, he found other marks evenly spaced apart around the coin. He took some good pictures and added arrows. It may have been mounted as a piece of jewelry. If so, I told him PCGS would not grade it.

Do you think it was mounted in jewelry at one time?
    Grade?
    Would it slab at PCGS?
    Value?
    Should he return it?
    Real or Fake?

    Thanks folks!

Yes I would say it has been mounted as jewelry. It appears to be genuine but any numismatic value the coin may have had is largely gone. I would return it.

Yep, it probably was jewlery at one time. If he decides to keep it, don't get it graded. The condition is in the XF range. It's real. You'll get more than melt if you sell it. So, If I was your brother, I'd hang onto it until I wanted to sell it or return it to the seller for a refund :)
