I'm just looking for some CT'ers opinions on this coin, and NO, I did not bid on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/1914-D-Lincoln-...240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50QQautorefreshZtrue
possibly a fake, too hard to tell because of all the issues around the date - definitely not one to waste money on.
Definate pass, the MM may have been altered. Only buy a slabbed 14D or from a reputable dealer. It's just not worth trying to save bucks with raw key date IMO. EDIT - On second look, that is definately faked. Nothing about it looks right even outside the date, looks like an altered 40's cent.
OUCH! What are the chances of a coin unintentionally incurring THAT type of damage, directly on the important part of the date???? I smell a rat. A BIG one. am I the only one who thinks they see a potential "vdb" on lincoln's shoulder?
Actually if you look closely at the lighter obverse photo, I see what looks like V D B on the bust, which confirms the coin as being a forgery. Probably 1944D modified. Jim
