I like this one enough to want to take a closer look.... If it has been cleaned it was a while ago and it has retoned nicely. However, the striking issue in the letter E on the obverse and a ?scratch? on the reverse below "ES O" is a bit troubling. All in all, a coin I would consider ordering provided the price was right and I had a good return policy should the coin be problematic once in-hand. Have fun...Mike
Mike, I first thought that that was a scratch on the reverse. However it appears it is a die crack based on some coins I looked at on heritage that had the exact same crack.
Thanks for clearing up the die crack issue. It's a neat coin, and I like the overall look, but would be concerned with "hidden" problems (hairlines, etc.) not shown in the photos. This is too valuable a coin not to be in a holder (well into the multiple thousand dollar range), which always perks up my numismatic scam antennae....Mike
Nice coin Z, Stunning example of Draped Vust coinage. I'd venture an EF-40 on the grade. I used to know where to find all the B varieties, but since my computer crash, alas... Take Care Ben
Zane: First-- did you get my PM? Second: GREAT COIN!!!!! ANd if you compare the picutres side by side, I think that the 'scratch' may be the result of a clashed die. Match it for position to the lower bust, let me know what you think.
Bone, I think you're close with the EF-40, but I think it may be able to get AU-50, just because these were usually weakly struck and this one has lots of detail. Very nice coin Zane.
It's nice but I'm going to defer to bonedigger on the grade cause the bust halves aren't my specialty
