I've recently relocated to NYC and have begun to search "my own back yard" for coin related sources. As you can imagine this city is a treasure trove of museums and the like. I've also found that the founding chapter of the ANS (American Numismatic Society) is located all of 2 blocks from where I work.

Anyone a member or dealt with them at all. I'm just curious if they are stuffed shirt types or more friendly and open to newbies.

At the least, I'll be heading over the the Federal Reserve Bank of New York tomorrow so I can catch a glimpse of THE 1933 double eagle. (part of a collection on display calledDrachmas Doubloons and Dollars: The History of Money

You have likely the greatest single source of research material there is in the world at your fingertips. I envy you.
