This Morgan was graded MS64 by one of the top grading companies. I bought it without looking at it which is a no no. It is overall a nice coin for the grade but it has a distracting scratch on the obverse at the neck line. My question is do you think it would have made the grade with the above mentioned scratch and how so? I have looked it over and it doesnt appear to have been tampered with which leaves me wondering if it made the grade as is or how it got there with out being broken into. Thanks for any comments. http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv45/pantheriaphotos/100_5001.jpg http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv45/pantheriaphotos/100_5005.jpg
Not only is that a scratch, but more like a gouge! I think it DEFINITELY could have graded better. Do you mind telling us how much you paid for that?
Are you referring to the shape that looks like a Mercury space capsule? It looks like a strikethrough to me. A strikethrough will not affect the grade, but those other two marks on her face surely would. I think you have a borderline 64. Chris
I payed 55.00 for it. I looked it over and its not a gouge but a thin mark on the surface. I first though it might be a small piece of plastic as it appeared almost white in color.
Thanks cpm. Thats about what I graded it as I collect in the MS63 to MS64 range but just wasnt sure about the scratch on her neck since I just got it in my hands and wondered how they gave it a 64.
