I'm looking for a couple coins from the years '24 and '26. I'll probably look for two coins from each, below is a short list I came up with. Is there any others I should consider? Or are any of the below more desireable than another?

The plan is to give them to my son for his 16th (2024) and 18th (2026)birthdays, to do with as he pleases. I know, along ways away but I assume they will be less expensive now than much later. And I'm not looking at buying them right now, but over the next year or so.

    1924 $20 St Gaudens - Low MS
    1926 $20 St Gaudens - Low MS
    1926 $10 Gold Indian - Low MS
1824 Bust Half - Low MS
1826 Bust Half - Low MS
    1926S Merc Dime - Low MS-FB

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

I'd stick to gold, if I were you.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Heckuva nice birthday present. Holy cow.

And I would not tell him to do what he pleases with them, because most teenagers intrepret that as "sell them and take the cash." If that's the case, you'd be further ahead to just give him the cash in the first place.

How did you come up with your preliminary list? Depending upon your answer, I might suggest 1924 and 1926 Peace Dollars and/or Standing Liberty Quarters and/or Buffalo Nickels.

These will be the only coins he can sell if he wishes, maybe to help buy a car, or something along those lines. Although I'm hoping he will take an interest in my Mustang GT, by then, it should be a cool car to cruise while all the other kids are zipping around in electric golf carts :hammer: The rest of the collection will stay until my wife and I kick the bucket.

Mark, I came up with the list based on MS coins in the $1,500 range. I think I looked at a 1924 Peace but it went from like $900 in one grade to over $2,000 for the next grade. 1924 didn't seem to be a good year for US coinage, it would have basically been a no brainer if there had been a 1924 $10 Gold Indian. I think both the 1924 and 1926 St Gaudens are on the top of my list but I'm open to most anything for the other 24 and 26 coin. Even from 1724 or 1726 :D

Those $900 Peace Dollars will easily be worth in the thousand dollar range in 2024, Just a thought.

After my 45 minute drive home, I was thinking Leadfoot and reiljj00 maybe be right, in combination. Maybe I could do something like that plus an ounce of gold?
