Would you keep original MRW Kennedys in their wrappers and boxes or store them in tubes? Just wondering, I need the space. Also, would it hurt their "value" by doing so?

I keep my coins that are in MRW and OGP in an MF ATMC, along with my TPGHs and RCs that are in PVCFMFs.

    That's just IMHO.

Unless you live in a matchbox, there really isn't much difference between the wrappers and the square plastic tubes. FWIW, the square tubes are easier to store. Have you ever tried to stack rolls? Original Mint rolls only hold a premium for bidiots!

I have four rolls of 64 Kennedy’s in mint wrapped rolls. Had them for a very long time and occasionally get an itch to see if any spectacular strikes are hidden in those rolls. I’m rather glad I have withstood the urge to do so really. I know myself and if they were stored in tubes I would have the urge to handle them and potentially cause a spectacular piece to become less than spectacular. I vote to leave them in the wrappers.

The problem with paper coin rolls, any paper coin rolls, is that they are very well known for causing unsightly toning and even corrosion.

About the only time it is even minimally beneficial to keep coins in mint labeled rolls - and bear in mind the mint didn't roll them a private company did after they received the coins in ballistic bags and ran them through a rolling machine, so they are likely pretty beat up to begin with - is when you plan to sell them that way, meaning still in those rolls.

And while there are people out there who will buy these rolls, there's not really a whole lot of them. Some, will happen to collect rolls. Others will still buy into the idea that "there's just got to be gem hidden in there somewhere" - even though it is a near certainty there is not. And of the small number who will buy these rolls few will pay much of any premium at all. Nor is it uncommon for them sell for less than issue price.

In reality, the mint selling coins in bags and rolls is merely a variation of one of the oldest cons there is - selling a pig in a poke. The truly amazing thing is that it still works.

I’ve had 3 or so rolls of casino wrapped Kennedy halves from my Dad’s collection for years.

I periodically think about cracking them out but can’t bring myself to do it.
