I am looking at adding some Civil War tokens and/or notes to my collection. I will be attending an auction this weekend and hope to pick some up if I can get a decent buy. I have put some of the auction houses pictures below. If some you experts could give me any suggestions for which are "better" and prices I should expect to pay that would be great.

    Thanks,
    DC

Sorry I didn't see your thread until today dcure. It's too late to comment now, but I was interested in knowing if you picked up any notes or tokens, these or any others. I have an interest in them and would like to see pics of any you bought. Thanks.

It was a very disappointing auction to say the least. The majority of the notes were glued to a board and had been varnished over. Most of the tokens appeared to have been filed down on one side. Not sure why someone would do that, but I wasn't too interested. I left the auction before they started to sell the tokens. There were only two tokens of interest to me after what I had seen in hand. I picked up a 65 and 66 sms. But everything else was running at a higher price than what I wanted to pay. As example ASE's were running at about $45-$50. May be OK, but seemed on the high side. May be better luck for me next time. Almost all of the other coins that were of interest to me were either cleaned or damaged.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck dcure. If you go to enough of these things, it's bound to happen to you here and there. I bid at auctions but don't really like them. I'd rather pay a fixed price for something I like rather than go through the hassle of dealing with other bidders or worrying about having problems with an e-bay seller or some such nonsense. My main collecting interest is counterstamps, and unfortunately most of the better one's show up at auctions or mail bid sales, so I have to go that route. Better luck next time.
