Opinions 1981 one dollar notes

    Came across these one dollar notes in the early 80's. Had no clue why i held onto them, After rechecking them I noticed on the bottom serial numbers the last numbers which should be a zero is missing some ink. At first I thought someone used white out to try and alter the notes. After looking at them under a lupe there is no discoloration of the paper and you can still see the sheen as I call it so I have ruled out white out or someone trying to alter the notes. Just curious as to the cause. Could it have been slightly under inked, or slight damage to the plates or something else. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

    Looks exactly like an under-inked digit, from a damaged numbering head. I have not personally seen this. It may be worth a reasonable premium. Very nice find.

    Agree, these are pretty wicked. Glad you kept them.
