I want to get at least one of each of the "12 caesars" and related coins, but I also want to expand and focus on Germanicus. I can only pic one of these because my bugets only about $30 (Claudius is 29, Germanicus is 26) Which one do you guys think is the better pick
Thanks in advance I might not be able to get either atm, so i'm not in a rush, just seeing which would be best to get
Hello, I would take the first one : patina is better, and every feature is IDable, where on the second example reverse is very worn (only a shadow of large SC is visible) Just my opinion Cucumbor
randygeki, of the two coins you posted, I'd probably prefer the first coin as well. Like cucumbor said, the patina is nicer (but I also prefer green patinas). Also, the reverse is more interesting with the image of Minerva.
thanks thats the one(claudius) I was leaning towards originaly but I'm also thinking that germanicus is harder to find, and I've been unable to get one for a while.
randygeki , I'd take the top one , I don't know much about ancients but the design is cooler and fuller . rzage
The Claudius is a nicer coin. But personally, I'm fascinated by the life of Germanicus. Its a close call!
I like the second one's appearance more. The top one looks gritty, whereas the lower has the nice look of well worn cobbles on the via appia antica.
Randygeki the choice is patina or no patina and that choice is your to make I know its a hard choice just pick what your comfortable with regards Harry :stooge:
i'd get the first one as if getting the 12 is only a minor goal then its not such a big deal to have them in less then prime condition. If your going to focus I'd say buy the best you can that way you won't kick yourself later either way i'm sure you'll be happy with your coin
