I am looking at these 3 Trinocular microscope and they all have a 2-1/2" (65mm) super wide field view. I know for looking at coins 45X is too high a power, each start at 3.5X. The 180X, I could use to look at other items. I have a 10X to 200X USB microscope with led lights I bought on Amazon, but it lacks a good crisp images, but still better than I had before. Any suggestions on these below or other brands that maybe better in the same price range or less. 3.5X-90X Trinocular 80-LED Boom Stand Stereo Microscope + 9MP Camera SKU: SM-3TZ-80S-9M Availability: In stock Regular Price:$1,459.96 Special Price$699.98 3.5X-180X LED Boom Stand Stereo Zoom Microscope + 10MP Camera SKU: SM-3TZZ-54S-10M Availability: In stock Regular Price:$1,630.00 Special Price$798.70 3.5X-45X LED Boom Stand Stereo Zoom Microscope + 9.1MP Camera SKU: SM-3TX-54S-9M Availability: In stock Regular Price:$1,459.00 Special Price$715.00 Thanks in advance for any input.
What is your purpose for the microscope? 1) Viewing coins directly through the eyepieces in stereo to look for varieties and such 2) Photographing coins for sharing finds 3) Viewing coins through the camera live on-screen #1 above can be accomplished for much less money, but without trinoc port. A B&L StereoZoom sells for ~$100 these days and gives you 7x...30x with 10x eyepieces. This allows viewing a full Cent. If you want to view a full Dollar, you can add a 0.5x auxiliary. #2 can be accomplished with in many ways, depending on the quality you're looking for. The Trinoc will likely give a bit better quality than a USB camera since the optics will be better. If you want higher image quality you could go with a camera setup. There is a thread on another forum outlining how to do this for ~$300-$400. #3 can be accomplished with any of the existing USB, Trinoc, or camera setup. So you could get a $100 B&L and a camera setup for ~$400-$500, and end up with all the same functionality, and better image quality than you could get from the Trinoc. Drawback is it's in separate systems.
If you do go with Amscope, I saw this one on their website as well: http://www.amscope.com/3-5x-180x-ma...ereo-microscope-with-10mp-digital-camera.html Looks full-featured
Can you summarize? I can't load the page, it's hanging forever trying to connect to a website-analytics service. Edit: never mind, got it to load by disabling Javascript. Bozos. $680 for a capable-looking stereomicroscope with built-in 10MP camera -- it looks impressive, but I'd still prefer something that lets me use my DSLR. Aw, who am I kidding? I've got three surplus stereomicroscopes collecting dust in the garage, and I can't keep enough space clear to set one of them up inside...
I don't know anything about the company but if it actually goes down to 3.5 X that's great. The 145X is worthless UNLESS used with high intensity halogen light pipes. On my scope the zoom powers .7X - 4.5X are set. So with 10X eyepieces, mine only goes down to 7X. I can change the power by changing the eyepieces.
Most stereos have auxiliary objectives available. For the B&L you can get a 0.5x which takes the SZ4 pod from 0.7x...3x to 0.35x...1.5x. With 10x eyepieces this gives a total range of 3.5x to 30x.
Thanks for the feedback. Big investment just want to make the right move for a unit that will fill all my needs. One stop shop.
