I'm working on a website. Here's two layout options for one of the Intro pages. Which do you prefer? And why? 1-column Clickable Table http://home.comcast.net/~dcderoo/IntroPage3-1col.html 3-column Clickable Table http://home.comcast.net/~dcderoo/IntroPage3-3col.html No, they aren't clickable yet.
kEEP IT SIMPLE! Use the one column. Surfers prefer easy access and readibility. If some feature needs 3 columns use Tables in that area with pastel color backgrounds to bring attention or importance to that item.. Clinker
Here's a third option. The navigation click-on's work. Please look at all 3 and tell me which you like best. http://home.comcast.net/~dcderoo/IntroPage3-links.html
If I can be of any help send me a PM---I have tech guys and the programs to help with such things Speedy
Thanks for the offer. I know there's a s/w package out there called Dreamweaver which is well thought of. It would certainly make things easier on me, but at $300-400 for the package it's a no-go. This is a "fun" thing for me. I'm 66 and retired, so I've got plenty of time. I'm at best marginal with XHTML. But one of my real problems is CSS. I understand the concept, but the particulars elude me. What I'll do is play for a while and if I run into a stone wall, don't be surprised if you hear from me.
I've never used Dreamweaver, but have a client that does....there are other things out there that can be just as good, or better, at either a lower price or free. Speedy
Dreamweaver is a good program, but you do not need to buy it to acheive the results you are after. As Speedy says, there are other, good, free options. Also, DW has a steep learning curve imo, many people make a career out of using it. I like the one column idea as well, just strikes me better. Good luck!
I like the 1-column Clickable Table the most, good job. I do hand coding in notepad myself and just wondered if you have considered a selection box (think thats what it it called) instead of tables? Click the box, scroll to what you want to see then click and redirect. Coding may be easier and will clear up alot of space on main page for ads, pics etc. Also will allow u to keep everything on screen at the same time like the front page of a newspaper. Also, keep working on the CSS's it makes future changes alot easier and faster.
Kanga, I use network solutions template based website, I have zero web experience and it was up and selling in 3 days, all you need is some Ebay experience. It is only $49 a month and zero transaction fees.....I have saved over a thousand already in Ebay fees
Right now it's all XHTML. And no help program. I'm writing all the code myself. But I'm slowly becoming aware of the value of CSS. Now if I only knew how to work with it.
