I'm thinking about setting up an online gallery for my CAC Type Set, something seperate from my NGC custom registry and my gallery on CoinTalk. I've seen a few really great examples, and I wanted to explore my options and gather ideas by reaching out to the members here to crowd-source the domains of coin galleries I've not seen before. Basically, I'm looking for URL's that are for a single person's collection that have a good aesthetic. I don't want links to people's registry sets on NGC / PCGS / or boards on public sites like Pinterest, imageshack, or other photo-sharing sites, or built-in galleries on coin forums. I'm talking about real domains displaying a curated coin collection. Here are the two that I know of, both run my CoinTalk member; please share others: http://bluccphotos.com/set/ @blu62vette http://colorofmoneycollection.com/ @WingedLiberty If you have created your own site like this, please share. Don't be shy! -Matt
I have played around with it, and the galleries, and will certainly populate more content there. My goal with this tread was to find some non-CT galleries so I can see some new eye-candy aka coin-porn, and to also get ideas for my own non-CT gallery. For example, since I posted this thread, I have created this site, but I need to add titles and descriptions to each coin. After an two hours, I think I have it looking and working with what I had in mind, but I want to see some other ideas too: geekpryde coins type set
Have you tried @gbroke 's site: http://thecoinnection.com/Public It's really well done and you probably know several of the users already.
Yes, I have used his site. I'm good buddies with that toner-freak. I use his beta version of that site, which will be even better. Shhh.
Okay, I think I have 4 hours into this so far, but I'm really, really liking it!! http://geekprydecoins.smugmug.com/
The page is great, really nice job setting it up! My one nitpick is with that banner at the top of the page, the one that says "geekpryde's CAC Type set". It moves down as I scroll down, making it hard to get a good view of the thumbnails. Otherwise, fantastic!
Wait, so no one knows any other sites than the two I listed? Someone must have book-marked some coin eye-candy sites! I can't possibly have found the only two in the world.
http://www.coingallery.org/ The above site was built by a longtime PCGS board member and features portions of collections from several prominent folks. I do not know if it has been updated in the last half-dozen years, but it is still a functioning site, as far as I have checked. Additionally, Ryan White started a website over a decade ago to feature some coins from another longtime PCGS/NGC board member. This site has also not been updated in a decade or so, but it also still works. It is below. http://www.pqcoins.com/ecc.htm I look forward to checking your site out today, too.
I have a CoinTalk Gallery, after the hiccups in the beginning, it looks like an easy place to assemble an online gallery. https://www.cointalk.com/media/albums/canadian-nickel-dollar-errors.66/ But I really like, and use, are the PCGS Showcase sets. These are not registry sets per se, but a place to showcase your favourite coins, errors, toned coins, pattern pieces, varieties, etc. I do that with my Canadian small cent errors, for example: http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/showcase.aspx?sc=1855
I agree, PCGS does a decent job with the custom registry set. looks pretty. I mostly use NGC custom registry. I wish I could combine the best of both of them. In this case, I wanted to have a dedicated gallery site that I was in control of, and could tweak to my hearts content. My goal is to have a single place where everything "geekpryde" can be found and curated. CT is great, but since it's a conversation, and not a monologue its hard to control everything. no sense choosing one over the others, I have a need for NGC, PCGS, CT, Pinterest, Gerry Fortins Open Registry, and more. I chose all! ::gluttonous::
Thanks for compliment. Some others have said the same thing about the banner. Funny, I was thinking it was a "feature". I tweaked it, lets see if that's less annoying.
