Hi All, I am looking for some online reputable foreign coin dealers/companies to do business with. Thank you John
Frank Robinson has world coin lists. Bob Reis is also a great dealer. Those two off the top of my head are great.
http://www.anythinganywhere.com/ http://www.fsrcoin.com/ Lots and lots of other great dealers out there, just pointing out two of them.
While I agree with the dealers listed on GDJMSP's link, most or all are high end and general sellers of Ancients through later World coins. If you are seeking a place to buy a pedestrian example of a coin from the 18th or 19th century, most of those listed do not want your business. It would be nice to have a similar list of people who are honest and sell coins in the $1 to 100 range.
Doug makes a valid observation about price points, really need some idea what an average price you are inclined to spend on a coin to make some recommendations that are suitable. For coins all over the price spectrum, try Jonathan Kern out of Lexington, KY. http://www.jkerncoins.com/inventory If buying the very best available is your thing, then Northeast Numismatic. Extremely expensive, but generally not available anywhere else. https://www.northeastcoin.com/selectinventorycategories.jsp If you really like world coins, want a great deal, and desire coins that have a great story, my very favorite would be M. Louis Teller. His website isn't updated very often, best way to keep up with his inventory is a subscription to World Coin News, which in itself is a real treat. If you are serious about collecting world coins, you should be subscribing to it. In addition to some great articles, there are loads of advertisements to the very best dealers of world coins here in the United States. http://www.tellercoins.com/ https://ssl.palmcoastd.com/07630/apps/ORDOPTION1LANDING?ikey=C**B02
"For coins all over the price spectrum" seems to mean over $1000. When a Mr. Kern is offering a Vitellius as his cheapest ancient coin, we obviously differ in definition. That is the point. I assumed when I read the OP request that he was looking for a $1 to $1000 dealer rather than a $1000 and up source. There is room for both in the hobby but we do need to know what the OP was requesting before we can help. "If you are serious": I recall a few years ago when a dealer I knew defined a 'serious' collector as one who spent $1000 a year on coins. Now there are quite a number of dealers who define that number as an entry level coin. It is quite possible to enjoy collecting coins without spending a $1000 on a coin. For that matter, you could say that about ancients and keep it under $100. Certainly that will not get you gold and large silvers but this list is largely populated with low end ancient collectors (with two major exceptions) who seem to enjoy small silvers and bronzes. I can not speak for those who specialize in modern coins.
Was referring to the world coins Kern offers rather than ancients, he has some interesting stuff under $100 most ads.
Just as a point of clarification, the list I made found in that link is only composed of dealers that I have personally dealt with, know, and trust. That is what limited who got on that list. Nothing else.
Agreed, I should have clarified what I am looking for exactly. I have started collecting foreign silver coins that contain at least 80% or more silver in them.
