I have been wanting to hold a contest for some time now, but just couldn't find an interesting topic or a reason to post one. I am wanting to change my signature and figured this would be a good trivia question. Only one person has ever asked me what it says since I put it up on CT - so that person cannot participate - sorry - you know who you are. So to celebrate my one year on CT, I have found a few trivia questions that I would like to ask. I am not necessarily looking for long answers, just detailed answers. The first place winner will walk away with a 1790 Dutch VOC duit in VF condition - about a $8 value. Here is some info on the duit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_East_India_Company and here http://www.educationalcoin.com/deluxe/VOCCOPPERDUIT.htm The second place winner will walk away with a copy of Q. David Bower's book, "The Inside Story of the State Quarters" - about a $7 value. Just PM me with your answers and the person who responds with the most correct answers will win. Thanks for a great one year and I look forward to everyone's reply. 1. What the heck does it say in my signature? Translation please. 2. What is the coin in my signature? What US Mint sets can it be found in? 3. What is the name of the bridge that is found on the reverse of the WV state quarter. In addition, what is the significance of this bridge. Thank you and good luck.
pm sent back. Almost there. There are a few things you need to get. You nailed the translation though..... that is awesome! :thumb: Didn't think anyone would get it.
of course its not over. he has the audacity to give away colonial indian coins i will see him in the boxing ring with my light sabre
Are you Spock or Skywalker , can't be both unless you got two personalities:whistle::hail::kewl: rzage
They are not real coins.....US coins that is! Those are fightn' words now! Not over yet. Rony is the only one to get back with me. After 3 tries he finally got it. The book is still available for the next person who pm's me with the correct answers.
He's been watching the previews for the new Star Wars movie. Its a cartoon so it not really a Star Wars movie.
Well, Darkfenix became our second winner tonight. He will receive the second place award which is the Q. David Bowers book on the state quarters. Congrats. So here are the answers and what I was looking for. Apparently, the first question wasn't really a challenge, but the other two stumped some people. 1. What does my signature say? It is in Latin and says, "If you can read this then you are overeducated!" This quote is engraved on a plaque that we got my father in law for a Xmas gift, but we decided to keep it and it can be found hanging above our kitchen phone. 2. What is the coin in my sig and what is its significance. The poised a huge challenge to all. The coin is an 2007 American Eagle Platinum proof 1/2 ounce. It has a monetary value of $50. The sets that it can be found in, in addition to the 4 coin platinum proof set, is the 10th anniversary APE set that had the reverse proof of that series. 3. Lastly, what is the name of the bridge that is depicted on the reverse of the WV state quarter and what is its significance? The bridge is the New River Gorge Bridge. An absolutely beautiful site to behold. So very serious class 4 and 5 rapids run under this bridge. I have gone on may rafting and fishing trips down this river. What made this bridge so special is that up until 2003, it was considered the longest arch bridge in the world. There were big signs at each end of the bridge notifying motorists of this title. But in 2003, the Chinese open the Shanghai Lu Pu bridge which took that honor. The signs have been changed to now say, the longest arch bridge in the western hemisphere. If you ever get a chance to visit that area of WV, you must take a look. It is quite breath taking. Thanks for everyone who did and didn't participate. Hope you all learned something today. Joe PS - sorry Rusty, no more prizes left. Maybe next time
