I recieved a quarter as part of my change today and one sde is the "tails" side of a quarter so it has no year on it. The other side looks like a "slug". Completely blank Holding it upright on the "tails" side it has about a 1/2" flat spot at the 3 o'clock spot and about a 1/4" flat spot on the 8 o'clock spot. I can work on photos if you think it's worth my time. edited

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

How can we tell you if it's worth your time without seeing photos?

I will work on photos. It will take a day to post them. I work 3rd shift and this is my sleepy time. Thanks

My brain isn't working and it is quite time consuming to meditate and try to read your mind/conjure up an image of whzat you have. I want it to continue being my sleepy time, but alas, I hear the siren song of work calling and must get up for that.

I will go to work for a day. I will wait for pictures. Thanks.

I didn't know if this coin was something that was very common so I assumed this might be something coin experts were very familiar with. I assumed someone would tell me that "your coin is one of many just like it and it isn't worth $0.25 cents. That's why I didn't get into photos ect. I wasn't sure it was even worth the effort. sorry. I am not a coin expert.

Most here, including me, are no coin "experts", although we may have expertise in some areas. But pictures are pretty much a must in most all cases. And your coin may technically be worth not 25 cents if the one side has been shaved away. But there are some cases where a coin has one side not minted properly, and without pics there is no way of saying.

Also, there is no way of saying value, unless there are pics, as condition and other factors go into value, and you cannot determine that just by reading a paragraph on the coin.

Also, once the pics are taken (usually with the micro or flower mode on a camera), it doesn't take too much time after you upload them to the computer to get into paint or some other editor and resize them down to about 800 X whatever or less, so that it can be uploaded here. Make sure it's in jpg format (easiest, for me anyhow) and simply select and open from your computer and voila! you got it. Shouldn't take a day.

It does take a day because I need to factor in sleep time, take boys to little league, Girl Scouts, housework, making supper, sleep and internet stuff.

Yet you can take the time to post reasons why it's a day, blah blah blah.

    Without pics, it didn't happen.

It sounds like 1/2 of a magicians coin.

Or maybe someone ground off the obverse:

Considering it may still have the reeded edge, and vending machines count that, go spend it on a soda...

Why would someone do that to a poor, defenseless quarter? Reminds me of the drawings i used to make with my spirograph in the 80's...

sorry. my PC is very slow and I have to take photo, edit, upload, save and post. I'll get to it. I shouldn't have asked without a photo. I got it. I just thought it was something that was very common and no photo was needed. I'll get to it.

No, not very common if a genuine error. It could be struck through die cap with brockage, but most likely ground and polished to remove all tooling marks (we see lots of those). Blank planchets are more common.

a-coin.jpg Here is a photo as taken in a mirror. The BIG coin is being held with tweezers in a mirror. The "line" that you can see is actually a line that you can feel. It is a difference of thickness from the rest of the coin. You should be able to see the "tails" side of the coin in the mirror image. The edges are rough and have not the usual coin edge.

why do you continue to put your email advertising in your posts? did you not learn from your first post being edited? did you not read the forum rules about that? do you want to be spammed?

And, as far as the coin goes, I would say it's PMD, which translates to Post Mint Damage, and is not collectible.
