As many of you here know Treashunt (the other Frank) has a few Barber coins. Well Frank, I'm afraid this one is going into the clembo hoard. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0015-6.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0016-4.jpg WooHoo! Another 1914-S. Puts my little hoard up to 14 examples now - 26 more for the roll! For those not real familiar with the series this is a tough (and under rated IMHO) coin. Only 264,000 minted. Same mintage as a 1916-D Mercury dime actually. A regular customer brought it in yesterday with a few other coins to do some bartering. I got a look before the boss did and told the customer it would most likely find a good home in my house. So the boss ends up with it while I was busy with another customer. Later he asks if I had seen it. Duhhhh! He never has any because I buy them. I tell him I'm interested in it. He gives me a price UNDER bid which surprised me and I tell him I'll get it today. THEN he wonders if he has any in inventory for sale should a customer want one. THAT'S when I tell him no. His reponse? "I should have charged you more". Still he honored the price quoted and this baby is now mine.
Curse you, Red Baron! Oops, I mean, Dan. Nice pick up. #14 pieces! Nice little hoard there. Seriously, a very nice original piece. Hey, have you tried for the 1915 S & 1913 P quarters? They are equally tough, and not as expensive.
Clembo, are you in dunes country? I'm planning to get up that way this summer and get sandy. Where's the shop?
Hello, My wife was given a 1915 P Barber quarter in change from a McDonalds. She gave it to me for my birthday. Using Photograde, it appears to me to be about a Fine to Very Fine. I just have a bad feeling that it was stolen out of someone's collection. Allen
Allen: Good find, but you can't think about where it came from, or you'll go nuts. Clembo: At a recent show, I picked up: 2- 1915 S Quarters, one both G obv, but a little weak on the reverse. (hey for $3 each, how could I say no. same dealer: 1900 s Vg, same price. out of junk silver (11X face): Barber quarters: '96P g-4; 07 O G; 09 S G; 1913 P G- obv, ag rev... and...... are ya ready? 1901 O in G-4 (check it out). plus a 1926 S Standing Lib in about VG. decent day. Also from junk silver: Mercs: 1937 P; 1943 P and 1945 P-- all nicely toned uncs.
VERY nice pickups for junk silver for sure. I can't say that will happen at the shop though. I have this tendency to yank them all and set them aside. Too bad I can't afford them all.
