By accident, I have collected this coin when going to river bank for natural call. A group of workers in the construction site found the coin and did not know where it come from. I came over and found that it's US coin which has value 1 Dollar and was cast in 1898. One side it has figure of Liberty statue Anh the other side has US emblem " Eagle and things" with statement " In God we trust" I wonder how much this one cost at current price. Pls take a look at the pictures at the links here in below. Thanks for reading and comments!! http://www.henritours.com/gallery/view/12/Old-Coin.html http://www.henritours.com/gallery/view/12/Old-Coin.html http://www.henritours.com/gallery/view/12/Old-Coin.html
That's a cheap copy of a Morgan Silver Dollar. First produced in 1878, it was designed by George T. Morgan. Last year of production was 1921. The Morgan dollars contained 90% silver, 10% copper. I can tell that's a fake Morgan because the rim is extremely to wide, which suggests it was cast and not struck as all U.S. coins are. If you have means of weighing that coin, it should come in at 26.73 grams plus or minus .02 grams. The diameter is 38.1 mm.
I know you didn't like hearing me tell you that coin you found is fake. But something you need to learn about U.S. coins, the Chinese are making fakes of American coins and selling them as genuine ones, ie ripping off the coin community. The Morgan is one of many older U.S. coins that are counterfeited in China. I'm sorry the news is not what you heard, but you can see on the other thread you started 40 minutes after this one in the U.S. Coins section, I'm not the only member of Coin Talk who knows this coin is fake.
looks like your morgan dollar was made out of copper or brass, a genuine morgan dollar would be made of silver
I know I shouldn't ask but I just can't help myself; are you trying to say that you found this coin along the edge of a river bank in Vietnam while you were answering "nature's call"?
