Just got one in circulation today. I'm not much of a paper money guy, so can anyone tell me if this is worth anything more than face? Don't know if this'll help any, but the serial # is G91434334D. Thanks!
Let's see...It's a 1995 in what I'd say to be about average circulated condition. Plenty of folds and creases.
While it's only worth $5, I would still keep it. Notes like that make a nice Emergency Fund. They make you really think about whether it's an emergency before you spend them.
lol :thumb: agreed. I keep all $1 and $5 notes from 1993 and prior, 1995 and up depends on condition. few of them are worth anything over face 'now' so in a pinch, i could always spend them.
i would first put it up for sale in the open forum. people like to collect these. as for rarity, it is worth face value.
Here's a tidbit, I believe the Federal Reserve issued the 1995 $5's for circulation up until 1999, possibly even later.
they kept making these old style 5's until 2000, and they probaly sat in a bank valult for another year. so possibly that bill has been in circulation for 6 years.
the 1995 note (series) was printed untill 1999 when that series started. So this note has been in circulation for a wee bit longer.
You can't always use the series date as a guide as to when they started printing the notes. It only refers to the year in which the design was approved for use. According to here (http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f1995_q.html), the 1995 series was printed until January 2000 and they started printing the 1999 series in December, 1999. A more extreme example would be the 2006 series, they didn't start printing them until May 2007.
i just checked that myself, and was about to post another comment and i saw yours thanks for pointing it out
Since OP gave us the serial number, according to the site I referenced, http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f1995_q.html , it was printed in January of 1999.
