we all went to grants farm today in st.louis. its pretty neat. anyway, i was standing in line for the snack bar and about 5 people in front of me there was this guy paying in an old style looking bill. i look at everyones bills when they pull them out to pay.:D i saw the cashier take it, and i knew then it was an old style $5 bill. i was hoping no one in front of me was going to get it! i had a close call though. someones bill was $15 and they pulled out a $20! then after they pulled the 20, they put it back in their pocket and gave a $10 and a $5 bill. there was one more person ahead of me! they got the regular bill and i got the old style! as soon as i saw that old style, i put my $5 bill back in my pocket and got my $20 bill just so i would get it. it turned out to be a 1995 $5 bill with a serial number of 95905498. nothing special, just an old style. since the fed are destroying these, i keep everyone i find. i have only found 1 so far, so that makes my 2nd $5 old style. well, just thought i'd share! :eating:

You got very sharp eyes...the best part is that you got it at face value.

nice! I was at a restaraunt one day and the waiter was complaining that he thought he got a fake 5 as a tip. I asked him if I could see it and it turned out to be a nearly CU, just one fold where the waiter halved it and stuck it in his pocket doh!, 1934 series. I offered to trade him a reg five for it after telling him what it was but he declined thinking it was cool. Who knows maybe the collecting bug bit him

the bill is in really bad shape though. there is a red line going from the top of the bill, to the bottom of the bill going through the serial number and series. the line is really thin though. there are no rips in it, but if you hold it up to the light, you can see 2 beams of light coming through president lincoln's picture. they are pin sized holes though. i'm still going to keep it even if it is in horrible shape. i like the old style designs!:)

    Nice Find

Nice find and good eye coinlover.

SO many people don't realize that currency gets destroyed. I rarely see and old "anything" anymore. Me and my "old" lady don't count. LOL

I was fortunate enough to be working at a truck stop when the BEP started changing note styles. Had to really watch my budget but put away as many CU fives and tens as I could afford. I put away packs of singles as well.

Best find was 20 consecutive 1995 Chicago district $5 star notes. There is still a lot to be found in currency if you know what to look for. Don't miss the truck stop but DO miss going through $12,000 in cash every day.

I really need an avenue to get rid of some the singles though. Got hundreds of them and ebay is a waste. Any ideas anyone?
