Project for the day is to sort through a pile of packaged Littleton Coins I bought back in the 70s. I think I signed up for some mail order thing where they would send you coins, and if you liked them you paid, otherwise returned. Does this sound correct? Anyway, if there's interest I can post some pics to see how bad I got ripped off?! Or, maybe there's something good in there?
Sure. I'd be interested to see a few of them, particularly through the lens of how they may have toned or reacted to being in the envelopes for so long. And yes, that sounds right on concerning being sent coins to review and then either keeping or sending back what you didn't want to buy. This was done with stamps as well at least into the 1990's.
I went overseas in the Army in the late 1970's. Littleton's "coins on approval" program kept me alive for almost three years overseas. I don't care if they are overpriced... They were a life preserver for me in the days before the interwebs.
oh...this looks like it is going to be as fun for us as it is for you. Please keep them coming! That is beautiful.
Oh heck yeah . . . . ! This thread is a combination "Time Machine" and . . . . . . . . Post both sides if you don't mind. Some of us have never seen a few of these . . . . . . Z
Will do! Lighting here in the great white North is sketchy today, so the pics aren't turning out as well as I'd like.
One thing I enjoyed and found interesting is the little write up they had on the envelopes describing characteristics and history of the coins and country of origin.
Great thread and look for ward to seeing everything. Their coins were always overpriced but considering how old yours are and the prices paid back then, you may come out ahead at todays values. And hopefully find a few real treasures in them.
