I recieved my SF Unc dollar today and noticed a spot above the beak on the obverse. Appears to be some type of strike through! Was thinking of maybe sending it back then I inspected the obverse and noticed what I believe to be a Tripled Die! Has anyone heard of this and or where came I report this type of discovery?
looks like it to me also, this looks like a job for Mike Diamond hold on to it until you here from Mike or one of our error guys.
The first pic looks like an extra chunk of metal that was pressed into the coin. Not a big deal. I think you are on to something about the triple die. Looks like it to me, but I did not think uncirc coins were tripled pressed. Is this a proof coin? Delawarejones
nickelman...that looks like strike doubling on your coin. Check out Ken Potter's article: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/OtherFormsOfDoubling.htm Larry Nienaber
Nickelman, it looks to me like you have a quadruple die, rather than a triple die. I'm no expert on errors, but I do think that is not machine doubling.
Nickelman: I agree that that is a WOW! quadruple die ! And No, it does not have the flat shelf like appearance of mechanical doubling. Look at the letters in the photo. There is nice rounding of the letters. All in all a GREAT find! I'd call Eric Von Klinger, Collector's Clearing House, for Coin World. Call soon. Frank

Thanks again for the advise I wrote to Eric and he says it looks very interesting and I'll be sending it in. Will post the findings.
