    What letters should there be?

I can't read the coin, but the coin cover says "Victory Advancing to the left"

    "Legend: SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE"

On the front it says: "Roman Empire VALENTINIAN I, 364-375 Bronze AE 3 c.36v

    "Lengend: D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG"

    Thanks for helping Drasus.

I think the SECURITAS REIPUBLICAE was what Drusus was referring to.It's the key to identifying the coin.
Valentinian coins are unfortunately quite common and really nice examples go for $10-20.

Under the advancing victory there should be some letters...the exurge...should identify where it was minted...right under the victory on the reverse would be a few letters which would be the mint mark.

I doubt it will make much difference though...the picture isnt so good but it looks like a common AE3 of valentinian with advancing victory...not worth much...5-10 bucks maybe...

Its still a little piece of history...a real ancient coin from the late roman empire...and you have a coin with a roman emperor on it, a pretty great one at that...

^^ a history of Valentinian...on the example see the SIS on the reverse? That is where the lettering should be on yours that tells where its minted...thats whats good about later romans...they had developed mint marks to identify where the coin was minted so you can trace the coin back to where it was made...

I good little coin to start a collection with IMO....no roman coin is a bad roman coin :)
