It is certainly in the design an ancient roman coin of Augustus Caesar. However, I am nervous about the style. I am guessing its a modern reproduction piece. I would gladly stand corrected if someone disagrees.

The style of the portrait, it doesn't feel Roman. It feels more 19th century. ALso, on the obverse there is an indentation all around, this was not normal for the way they struck coins. Those are a couple of things that are causing me concern.

These are not my specialty, though, and I would defer to anyone who is more experienced and/or a early Imperial collector. These are just my concerns.

If it were real, it is easily a multi-hundred dollar coin.

I concur with Chris - a modern fake.

I saw one of identical style being sold on ebay by a well known fake seller back in 2007. A modern fake.
