I was at my grandparents house looking for their old coins. I came across these old penny boards. I just took pictures of the entire boards so let me know if you need better pictures. I was just wondering if any of them were worth any money. They had the VDB coins, however the ones in the S slot are not from that mint, they were just put in that slot because it was a 1909 VDB. Please let me know if any are valuable or if you want better pictures of some of them.

I feel you have a lot of money there but it will take better images to say what you have. Start with all the 1909 coins and the 1914D. You may know this but be really careful with the coins. Don't touch the surfaces with anything. Don't try to clean them in any way.

They look unnaturally bright. Some definitely look cleaned. Others not.

I agree. Many look too bright to be in a board of this age.

Not saying they are, but wondering if they could have come from a mail order catalog, like Harriet-Carter or something similar? Maybe that would explain some of their unnaturally bright colors? I've seen those pop up a lot in newspaper ads and magazine ads similar to these in the last 5-10 years and thought about replying and never did.

The cardboard holders are definitely from the 50's or 60's though with that font style.

Yea I believe they were cleaned or polished with something because this 1929 wheat looks very glossy. I will also add pictures of the 1909s and 1914d.

It looks like it was coated with lacquer.

Well, considering one of the board has instructions, "Clean your specimens with a soft eraser or a little vinegar before placing them in the board," I would expect some to be cleaned. Pity.

Board 1 looks to have some coins that could be nice, but that might be due to them being lacquered like the 1929.

Here are some close ups of the 1909s and the 1914. Some look cleaned and some dont.

Ouch. That 14-D lost a fight with an eraser.

So have the coins basically lost all their value?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

No, not necessarily. The rare dates will still have value even if they have been mistreated.

I suggest you take these to a local ANA affiliated dealer. He can give you the best opinion, and help you determine the value based on seeing them in hand.

I thought this thread was going to be a question about the boards.
