Hey folks I was wondering what you guys thought about this old pci barber dime ? In my opinion it looks to be a grade or so higher than what pci decided. Knowing this company is bad for over grading, is it unheard of for them to under grade a coin ? I'm thinking of buying this coin and could really use a few opinions as to grade.
Depends on the coin. I once had a 1818/7 PCI F15 capped bust half that went to PCGS and came back VF20. This Barber looks like a nice MS60 to 62 to me.
With these pics I can't tell if it's high AU or a 62-63 . Could you take a little clearer pics ? Though 62 appears right as an educated guess .
old PCI was pretty conservative a lot of the time. The coin in question looks 64 ish from what I can see as a guess. Better image is needed for such a nice example.
It's graded pci au55 , I thought it was atleast au58 . The pics are the listing photos so that's what I got to go by. Seems the bid has went up a good amount since I posted this so I'm not sure if I can get it at a fair price.
Well I was more or less just wanting opinions of what you guys would grade the coin. I figured if I posted the grade it would influence everyone's opinion.
Just ended at about 72 total (when adding in shipping) http://www.ebay.com/itm/11168353407...48&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&autorefresh=true
I liked this coin too but wasn't sure about the cheek area. Not sure if those are dings/scratches or just the photo. Anyone here win it?
Yeah it looked choice AU if not unc, I wanted it , not as much as the next guy as It went to high for me. I was willing to pay 60 ,as you said it went over 70 by the time you add shipping. I appreciate you guys posting , guess I can't win them all!
A generalization, yes, but the green ten digit PCI slabs, while not really conservative, were usually accurately graded. IIRC a later incarnation used a very similar holder with ten digits albeit with a different font. Other than this though, little faith should be placed into any of the others, but there, as always, can be and are the exceptions.
The seller stated it was an early 90s slab. dddd posted a link to the listing a few post above. The coin In my opinion looks to be ungraded quite a bit. Unfortunately it seems a lot of other bidders must have thought so aswell , the bid went about 10 bucks more than I was willing to go.
I'm not sure I understand this post. It looks like a Dime date of 1815. Were there any minted in 1815 ? Dave
I think they got this one right , but with the sellers blurry pics who can really say . Though liberty's front hair is either worn or a weak strike , I go with worn . Then I wouldn't pay MS money for this coin with those pics .
