Check this Korean coin album, which seems to have been produced in the late 1960s, and patterned off of the Dansco-type pages of the era: https://www.ebay.com/itm/KOREA-Mode...277135?hash=item1a73857a4f:g:wV0AAOSwC~9cUlO~ @gxseries and @furryfrog02 may be interested in seeing this. I think I've seen someone who had one of these at a coin show once.
I saw a couple of these in a back alley flea market near Dongdaemun a few years back. It was full of coins but unfortunately had a lot of water damage and everything was a mess . The old guy was asking 50k won if I remember correctly and most of the coins were badly corroded. Shame.
Yeah, I think this album was a common collector product produced by a Korean numismatic publishing company (maybe the most prominent one in Korea back then: Geumhwasa Publishing). They seem to be have been made once and not updated, so that's why they only have slots for coins up to the early 1970s.
Well, there are two options, if you really want a Korean coin album! Here they are: 1) A Dansco airtite frankenstein (with "blank" Dansco products) album that I made: 2) You can order a CAPS airtite album: https://www.valleycoin.com/supplies.../caps-albums-with-capsule-kits-slipcases.html 3) or use Dansco blanks products to just fit the coins directly into the pages, like they're meant to work.
Yours looks really good. I want a whitman-style folder made specifically for the coins lol. All of mine are just pulled from circulation from when I lived in Seoul. Nothing nice like yours. PS - That is a great looking 50 Hwan. I'm a sucker for anything turtle boat
It's still a bargain - I reckon the coins alone are more than 200+ dollars (!). The album perhaps would be 100 dollars give and take...
Final price: $517 !!! Hopefully the buyer is aware how scarce some coins are - some are easily in the high 3 to 4 figure mark! A type set would have been so much easier. This reminds me to revisit the Korean coin album that I designed a while back... I did find a couple of rather scarce coins which I haven't update yet.
Just to put it into context - A 5 yang coin might be quite pricey at 1000+ dollars. Mintage figures are around 20,000. However this is somewhat an easy coin to find if you are willing to fork out an arm. eBay currently has 3(!) on offer. In comparison to it, here are some coins that I found them significantly harder to find. I am certain they rarely pop up in the market. I need to update the photos... I finally found a Korean coin that took me a decade to hunt down - supposedly from a collection that was assembled in 70s. Will update when I get around to it including the albums... And she is back again! Wouldn't be surprised if the buyer flipped over the final price. Or maybe he / she realized that this is an impossible album to achieve...?
What do you mean? Is it up for bid again? EDIT: Oh, yeah! Here it is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/KOREA-Mode...914708?hash=item1a777e4954:g:wV0AAOSwC~9cUlO~ Starting bid is at $200 USD. The highest bidder last time may not have paid. That's what I'm guessing.
Nope, I contacted the seller. Apparently, a number of coins were heavily corroded, so the buyer felt that he had overpaid and returned the set for a full refund.
Honestly, the heavily corroded 5 fun coins don't make me have much faith on the condition of the album. Let's assume that I can replace the coins in them but wouldn't the residue of the corrosion spread??? I'll still stick to the digital album thanks...
