    L. Christ Lauer was a well known Nurenburg based manufacturer of play-money, arguably the biggest and most well known. Some of their early pieces can actually be worth good money.

    I can't read the text around the figure's bust. Can you type here what it says? It looks to say possibly something about "Preussen" or "Hessen" on the right...this would help with identification....or a sharper photo ;)

    I think the text ends in "V. PREUSSEN", ie. "of Prussia". The portrait should then be the one of Friedrich, king of Prussia and German emperor in 1888. The odd thing is that the name (which should be the first part, before DEUTSCHER KAISER) is very short; not even "Wilhelm" would fit in there. :)
