These are a few of the very first ancients I bought, with better pics. Just updating my FORVM gallery today, no big deal. Big Licinius and Little Licinius playing soldier. Constantius II Campgate with nice color and silvering, VRBS ROMA, Theodora, and an attractive "black and tan" Constans. It's nice to revisit these coins. When I first started collecting ancients, I think I was buying a coin a day, and they didn't all get the attention the deserved.

Some of those are quite ice, especially the "black and tan"

Great job, JA => it is always a sweet feeling when you finally get around to organizing, re-organizing and updating your collection (I love the feeling)

=> thumbs-up, my friend (your collection and/or photos are always a pleasure to view)

Nice photos JA. I absolutely love that VRBS Roma. Some great detail on the helmet with seemingly no wear to speak of.

Nice pics! Another vote for "black and tan"... I like this Fel Temp reverse and need to get myself one of them.

At the moment I am in the middle of a revisiting project as well. I decided it was time to repackage my coins in a manner that would be easier to send off to a dealer if my heirs decided not to keep them when I'm gone. That means I am handling coins that I had not touched for a while. It it interesting how many coins I know mostly from the photos taken ten years ago actually look better than the photos. Most coins look better than photos because they are larger than the coin in hand and show off faults you do not see ordinarily. So far I have only reshot one coin (a Probus posted in another thread).

I enjoy the coins but it does seem that there is a point where you have to address how large a collection should become before you can not revisit it all efficiently.

I wonder if my Constans AN gamma came from the same hoard as JA's similarly colored coin? Notice they are not the same due to my coin having the star in the reverse field.

Doug => you have fantastic coins and amazing photography-skilz!! ... it makes me sad to hear you talking about your "end of days" (man-up => you haven't taught me nearly enough, yet!!)

    ;)

... but hey, good luck with your new coin-project => "final presentation"

=> I can hardly wait to see your entire collection unfold and be brought into the 21st century (hmmmm? ... although I'm really kinda interested in seeing your old-school clay-presses, or whatever awesome-Martin was showing-off recently)

... hey, maybe it's time to rethink it and knuckle-down and make molds of every single one of your crazy-cool coins?

=> wow, what a "Magnum Opus" that would be, eh?!!

... ummm, and then maybe you could take photos of all of 'em ...

    :woot:

    You rock, mentor!!

I am just loving these group shots. I find taking good photos of the coins both frustrating and extremely rewarding and an intriguing part of the hobby.

This coin doesn't belong here since it just arrived today, but it doesn't really merit a thread of its own. $15 eBay snack - as common as they get, but it has a nice portrait. The reverse seems to have been a bit over-cleaned, but nothing time won't fix.

I like these "fel temp reparatio" coins. CONSTANS - FEL TEMP REPARATIO.jpg Constans
CONSTANTIUS GALLUS AE2 - FEL TEMP REPARATIO - ANTIOCH.jpg Constantius Gallus
    Constantius II Phoenix on globe.jpg
    Constantius II

I have the other 2 somewhere (two slaves and the galley). I saw all these on Doug's FORVM page and had to have them. I will post the others when I locate them. My system needs work.
