Hi. I just joined up today so I don't really know much about coins or collecting them. I was looking through my mums drawers when I came across an old Chinese (or Japanese) coin. In Chinese, it reads, da ri ben; Ming zi er shi nian. Here is a picture: And Can anyone tell me anything about this? Is it real or fake? What year was it made in??? Thank you
It is Japanese. not sure what year it is Ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...00&_nkw=416 one yen 900&_sacat=3391&_from=R40 yours has a counter stamp making it more interesting. KM#A25.3 Yen- denomination. metal- .900 silver, weight- 26.9600g or .7800oz. Ruler- Mutsuhito (Meiji) yr. 19(1856)-yr.30(1897) size-38.1mm not sure what year your coin is ?
Your coin is dated 1887. While this coin has a "chopmark" on it - this DOES NOT detract value from the coin. Also please do not clean the coin unless you are happy for the value to drop drastically. This is a genuine Japanese 1 yen coin with an official countermark by Tokyo mint. More information can be found here: http://hkmal.blogspot.com/2011/06/343-japan-osaka-gin-countermaked-yen.html I don't believe this particular coin is common especially in this condition and chopmark. This is worth way more than melt value.
yr.20(1887) mintage-8,275,787 I like that chop mark(more collector value added). large size coin grade/value F-$125.00 VF-$225.00 XF-$325.00 UNC-$1,350.00 reduced size coin 38.1mm grade/value F-$45.00 VF-$75.00 XF-$150.00 UNC-$850.00 guessing your coin grade is XF-AU. at least XF. just not sure what your coins size is in millimeters ???
