Old and warn but could it be an error?

I am new to collecting... I decided I want to try and collect Quarters, Pennies, Nickels and, Dimes for every year. I have this 1970 quarter and I think it may be more then wear and tear. Did someone mess with it or could some actually be a mistake? Also side note-
Why are people selling state Quarters from 2014,2015,2016 and so on for so much on eBay? Is a 5 piece set of them really worth like $200.00?

    Welcome to Cointalk
As far as your coin it appears to be PMD (Post Mint Damage) it isn't a Mint Error ebay well I'll let other's chime in on that one.

First of all, the coins are damaged, no error

Also the reason people are selling state quarters for that much are hoping to find someone who doesn't know anything about numismatics, and willing to pay large amounts of money for something they think is rare, but really isnt.

As Yolo stated. Type in just one year at a time on ebay and you will eventually see the proper prices when a full list comes up. Just ignore those outrageous prices. It will make a difference though if you are looking at regular business strikes sets, proof sets, or silver proof sets. The only one that is price high right now is the 2012 sets. Unreasonably high I might add as they were not rare.

People can put any prices they want on their stuff on eBay. I can go find a normal penny and put it on for $1,000,000 if I want. That doesn't mean it is going to sell. If you want to get a general idea of prices, I'd recommend checking out the Red Book and there are some other online price guides.

BTW, your quarter is just damaged. :)
