This is a very beautiful project. You can see an ancient city Olbio, one of the greatest ancient places of Ukraine. Due to such projects I am proud of my country! http://www.olbio.com.ua/en/flash/ This coins was strike there...
Have you been to the museum that was in Odesa? I have been by it several times, but it never happened to be open whence I was there. This is actually my daughter's piece: She likes delfini, dolphins and well, was born not to far from where this piece was made ca. 500 or so BC.
Here's mine: Olbia, Sarmatia Æ25, 10.5g, 12h; 3rd-2nd centuries BC. Obv.: Horned, bearded head of river god Borysthenes (Dnieper) left. Rev.: Bow in case and battle axe; OΛBI to right, API to left.
@scottishmoney I have been at Museum at Odessa that was named "Money Museum" near Katerine II monument not far from Duke. I do not know if we are speaking about the same museum. But that place I have seen at Odessa at my scale was 2 points from 5 - not recommended to visit.
well, i knew i had a coin from there, and it lQQks like same one.. rivergod god/river Borysthenes(?) now known as Dniepr. it took me years to make heads or tails of this coin, but it always haunted me to do so.
It is same museum, just up from the Opera House. I know the hours were sporadic, I just happened to be there whenever was closed. I was from down in Belgorod-Dnestrovsky then so a bit of a drive across the Dnestr estuary to get there. I've heard people running museum were "interesting". Here is my only coin from Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, then "Tyra": A small bronze from Tyra when the area was part of the Roman Empire - but used the Greek alphabet still, this coin was minted ca. 138-161 AD on the Dnestr Estuary area in what is now Belgorod-Dnestrovsky/Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi - one of the ten oldest cities in the world.
That bowcase is very detailed @I_v_a_n! Nice coin! Here is a Greek from Olbia and my only provincial from Sarmatia. Tyra. Olbia, Sarmatia. AE18 Obverse: head of Demeter right crowned with grain ears. Reverse: OΛBIO, BSE in ex., eagle with closed wings standing on dolphin. Mionnet Supp. II, 16; Sestini 47. Sarmatia, Tyra. Julia Domna AE24. Cybele Obv: TVPA NWN. Bust of Domna r., draped. Rev: IOVLADO MNA CE. Kybele seated r., wearing mural crown; in her r., patera; beneath l. elbow, tympanon; behind, delta. BMC 2
Wow, that one has the tail and all. Excellent preservation. Your daughter has a very nice specimen of the dolphin proto-money.
watch out for those pot dolphins, they'll eat all your doritos! that's an sweet dolphin collection you got there adres!
When I has visit museum I was first of all interested in Russia Empire coins especially 18-century roubles / poltinas. When I come to the box with this coins I have seen most of such coins modern fakes (even not good level museum copies), so, I have turned and go away....
For this moment I have a lot of ideas in EL/AV field. Now I start a web-site like AJ and TIF. There is a blog where I'll write my last ideas https://www.goldencollection.club/
