I've been under the impression that this actually happens quite often, and that there's no added value...only the added hassle to returning it for an actual complete set. Is this true?
There is no added value, per Numismatic News. They had an article on these a while back. But, the mis-packaging is cool.
Yup, 2 Virginia's. When my Dad bought these I don't think he ever noticed and when I was auctioning most of his coin collection off I noticed this. Not even my husband caught it and he is also a coin collector. Needless to say, I've decided to keep this set.
No added value normally, but if someone thinks it's pretty cool, they might pay a small premium. I would probably, I think it's pretty cool. :thumb: Phoenix
I got the same thing with 2 Maryland Quarters, figured what the heck, I'd send it back and probably get the same problem. Probably be cooler with a silver set though.
You want a silver set? Buy two silver quarter proof sets, open them up swap, two of the quarters, and snap the sets closed again. Now you have two sets. Keep one and sell the other "nifty error set" on ebay. People were doing it all the time back in 1999 and 2000.
