got this years back with an assortment of crusted over tiny romans.. this was the only silver and have had zero luck IDing it.. so i turn to the guys who know what their talking about.. Any ideas is smaller then a dime and very thin... single design/strike..
This thread could of or would of been better created over at the Ancients forum. Should of been done there..
true but as I don't know for sure that it IS an ancient I placed it openly. I suspect it is ancient as i recieved it with numerous small ancients.. a few that cleaned up well...... OK I didn't even think of that lol I am more then slightly overmedicated at moment..
It looks like a hammered Pfennig, like those issued in the area of modern-day Austria and East Germany in the 12th-16th centuries.
If I had to guess, I'd say it was an Ottoman silver akce. I once found one in a lot of uncleaned ancients (the Balkans, where many uncleaned lots come from, were once under Ottoman rule), akces are indeed smaller in diameter than a dime and very thin, and, if I squint at your photos, I can _almost_ make out traces of the inscription. Almost.
Yeah, most likely. Where many ancients are found these are the most common, least valuable silver things in the ground.
