I have a Double Eagle that has been passed down that I am trying to get an idea on it's value. Sorry I can't post photo as of now (bank box) but I do have the specs. It is PCGS certified 1856-s PCGS AU50 Twenty Dollar type 1.
According to PCGS current price guides, the average asking price for a typical, problem-free example of your coin is $1800.
Grey Sheet is $1,325. That is what a dealer would pay another dealer for an average AU-50. Don't expect a dealer to pay you that much.
And remember what Hobo said that's the price a dealer will pay to another dealer for an aveage example , All AU-50s are not created equal , there's ones with high eye apeal and ones that are butt ugly . rzage
OOOOOPS!! You are correct. I should put on my reading glasses when I read the Grey Sheet. I'm glad I wasn't buying the coin when I looked at the wrong column. I will go back and edit my post.
