I'd like opinions about this coin too please. In the 2011 Red Book, it shows 2 examples of the 2/1 merc. I believe this may be the 2nd variety, but I would like some opinions from you guys since you helped verify that the other coin was indeed a fake (thanks). Here is the first 2 pics, any and all comments are welcome, thanks. One of the pics has some red marks where the faded parts of a one appear, at least to me, which is why I am asking for opinions, because my eyes sometimes see things aren't there.
Taz, Is this a Denver mint coin? The second variety listed in my Red Book is supposed to be a 1942-D. Chris
okay, first: The two pictures are for two different mints. The one to the left is Philadelphia. The other is Denver. Did you check for a mintmark. I don't have a closeup of the Denver handy, but.... That isn't it. Sorry. I'll look for a picture later.
Well....this is odd...I just checked for a mint mark and there isn't one, yet it appears that the date is doubled...doesn't it? This is strange....why would the date be doubled if not trying to cover a 1 ? Is there even such a known variety? And if it's a fake for some reason, why didn't they fake the 1 as well?....I would appreciate any help guys because now I am thoroughly confused...
I see some sort of doubling in 2 different directions. The 1,9,& 4 look to be MD, but the 2 is definately different...
Ok, I checked but couldn't find any info on that site...guess I'll just submit it with the other one and get an opinion for this one as well, thanks.
