I was at a coin shop, and while looking through boxes of 2x2's I noticed a few of them dripping with oil. The dealer said its from the PVC flips. Is that correct? I asked him if he wanted me to pull them out of the box as I see them. He said no, he didn't care about them.

PVC can produce "oil" if kept in hot environment.

But often , an oily 'preservative' material such as blue ribbon, ms70 mix. I once received coins like that, and the seller said it was normal- accepted dealer action, and blue ribbon or coincare protected the surface. I chose to differ. I assumed by the term 2x2 , you meant the cardboard-mylar holders which should have no PVC effect.

gotta love a coin dealer who is selling coins that he "doesn't care" how they are being stored in his possession. epic fail.

I once bought a set of Mercury Dimes in a Whitman album from an eBay seller. Every dime in the album was coated with grease. I heard it was once an accepted practice to coat the coin with grease in the belief it preserved the coin.
