Any CT members attending the show this year ?? I usually go on the 1st AND 2nd day, but couldnt get the day off.:rage::punch: I will be in attendance tommorow and was wondering who else will be there?

For those in the area who may be interested, the show runs Friday Saturday & Sunday on Labor Day weekend every year. Located in Dublin at the Grande Plaza Hotel. Show hours are 10am -6pm. Biggest show in the great state of Ohio !!

Here is a mini show report for those interested. I got there at 10 a.m. when the doors opened. Place was seemingly packed, elbow to elbow which seemed strange being that the Buckeyes game was kicking off at noon. I went shopping and located at least 5 '09 Lincolns that looked good from a distance. All were either MS65-66 RB or BN i couldnt pull the trigger on ANY of them. Either they had spots or there was a rough rub spot on the cheek, ugggghhhh !! There was one that was OK i guess but just didnt speak to me, especially after the dealer was tacking on an extra $50 to the numismedia retail value. :banghead: Anywho, i did actually find a Morgan that spoke to me >>> 20180901_132333.jpg 20180901_132355.jpg
Around 11:30am i met up with @kazuma78 as i was trying to haggle with a dealer over a 1906 IHC MS64RB, i asked him to come to the table and maybe weigh in on the coin. Hoping to get a better price than the $165 he had on the price tag. It had nice color but wasnt something i was willing to pay that much of a premium for. Dealer didnt budge, so i ultimately passed on it. We walked the show and mulled a few coins over. There were some nice ones!! He pulled out his PMG Marion Ohio
Multi-Bill National Currency matching serial no. 000001s set. Eyes were lighting up, and crowd started forming trying to get a look at them. He quickly became the most popular man in the room !! @kazuma78 (Josh) is seen to the right here in the photo.>>> 20180901_121102.jpg 20180901_121106.jpg my dealer buddy Jim (Northcoast coins) is posing with the serial no.1 set (drool):woot:
Oh, and did i mention, the signature on all 3 bills, is that of his grandfathers:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:
Talk about being the big man on campus:cigar:
The Ohio State game was kicking off and predictably everyone flocked to the hotel bar TV and back home to the beer & BBQ. I found just one more item on my way out the door> 20180901_133006.jpg 20180901_132944.jpg Colonial period 8 dollar note with some cool anti-counterfeiting measures from Annapolis Maryland. Reads- 'Tis death to counterfeit- on the reverse right side. Pretty cool piece of history and didnt break the bank. Overall i had a pretty good show and looking forward to next year already.

Only picked up one slab, nothing really special or oddball about it, just a Dominion Grading Service Sample slab. I'd find one other thing though that shocked me. We normally say that Accugrade was the first grading service to slab coins, and either ANACS or INS was the first grading service. Well that is true for the US, but the earliest slabbing and grading service that I know of was SAGCE, South African Gold Coin Exchange. They began grading and slabbing coins in sonicly sealed hard acrylic holders in 1975. But they only graded prof Kruggerands, and they graded using a 114 point grading scale (I thought it was 105 but it turned out to be 114.) Well at the show in their book sale I found a copy of SAGCE's grading guide that explains their system! It was published in 1980 making them also the second grading service to publish their grading guide ( ANACS "ANA" was first followed by SAGCE, NCI, and finally PCGS)

"S100 A full and complete explanation of the S100 system for the evaluation of Proof Kruggerands incorporating a wealth of information about Kruggerands"

I've only read part of it so far.

Very interesting @Conder101 !! I will keep my eyes peeled for these slabbed kruggerands.
Sounds like an interesting book as well.

Here are a few more shots of my toner.....
It has an irridescent toning, which looks different depending upon light source> 20180902_123729.jpg 20180902_123836.jpg 20180902_124302.jpg

Did some more reading, turns out this was the third edition, first two were in 1975 and 76 so their guide predates ANACS's.

I'll have to post part of their procedures on how they handle submissions. It's enough to make you run away screaming.

Looks like there are copies of the 1975 edition in two South African libraries, the Getty (LA) and LoC (DC) in the US

The 1976 edition at several SA libraries, plus Oxford (UK)

The 1980 edition is cataloged only at two SA libraries.

OK lets see if these will post well enough to be seen clearly.

Front and back cover. Notice the slab on the back cover.

Blank certificate. The line drawing on the certificate is where the graders indicate (draw in) identifying features on the coin.

And finally the steps they take when they receive you coin. Keep in mind we are taking about PROOF Krands. You may want to use crtl+ to increase the image size to make sure you can read it. Pay special attention to the section on chemical cleaning and the sixth paragraph under Drying.

I have to admit I never really looked at mine, all I cared about was the slab.
