I have been shrugging my shoulders over my image resolution that upload and view here. I looked several times on photobucket to see if I could find out what was happening. I finally figured it out/ found the tab for the options and then noticed the upgrade option. Finally... Now everyone can see what I see on coins that I image. This is a cool coin that I just arrived from RLM. A very nice addition to the set I am building, I am bit worried about it crossing though especially after seeing this coin close up. I wanted to get some of the luster reflecting back with out sacrificing detail and colors. This coin was a challenge to capture since it is crooked in the holder and my DOF is less than .5 mm. MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON THE COIN UNTIL IT QUITS ENLARGING!
Thats actually a great point - thank you for reminding me. I recently received a coin that I thought I knew what it would look like from their images. I was a bit disappointed. Usually these type of hi res pics make the coin look worse than it is. The coin that arrived was the opposite. I saved the hi res images from that auction and I have my own. I'll post them later on.
I dunno, man. I still can't quite positively ID the two pieces of lint (above LI and 90) on the obverse. Until I can see individual cells, you've still got work to do. Seriously, outstanding work. Remind me what camera and lens you're using? Any room to improve that .5mm DOF by stopping down more, or are you already at the diffraction limit for your system?
Very nice photos! I'm not trying to derail your thread, but please tell me why the text is four times wider than the photo? I've never been given an adequate answer to this in the past, but could it have something to do with the way the photos were formatted on your hosting service? Scroll on! Scroll on! Chris
Your photos are definitely better than mine. You said you wanted different, that one definitely qualifies. As for the size of your photos, graders use no magnification or 5X for confirmation. If you want to look for varieties, 10X or 15X I can understand. However, at 50X, it is even hard to see the leaves on the trees when you are trying to see the forest.
Too bad they force me to scroll right about 12"-15" to read the posts. LOLOLOL LINKS....POST LINKS before I go crazy! On another note, why not just get your own web domain? Hell, for less then $10/month you have all the storage you need and no restrictions.
Wait, do you guys use IE still? If so... heh. Download Firefox and get ready for an e-life changing experience. I converted my dad a year ago in a really covert way, and he commented a couple days later; Dad: "Boy, this new Internet Explorer is way better than the old one." Me: "It's not IE. It's Firefox. Welcome to the 21st century."
I wrote a lot in another thread about Chrome... It is bare bones - you have to try it if you never have.. I thought FF was the greatest thing since sliced bread until I picked up a google redirect virus that Norton could and wouldn't get rid of .. they wanted another $100 just to put me into special services.. lol.. I was a little worried about selling my soul to Google. by using their browser. Initially I didn't opt in for them to use my browsing info but after a few months with little to no problems - I turned it on. I notice my search results are coming up differently, not bad or anything.. anyways try CHrome and make this forum and images your first test. you can always uninstall .. The tabs at the top are sweet and if people are like me ..I have 10-20 browsers open at a time! Great for eBaying etc etc. oh! typing directly in the address bar for searching, dragging and customizing links and only showing what you want in tool bars.. little tool icon waaaaaay out of the way has the drop down for all the other rarely used stuff.. customizable to your viewing habit s is what is clutch!
Chrome is awesome too. I use it at work all the time. But at home and on my Mac, I prefer FireFox, because I've already got a ton of plugins installed.
Fantastic detail and scale of those pics! I've also been a FF user/devotee who has been postponing conversion to Chrome. You give me somethings to consider. Thanks.
I use chrome too, and it speeds my computer up, especially when loading pictures. Do you put a loupe on the camera to take the picture? (i know, dumb idea) I don't know how to take awesome pics of my coins
I forgot that part! LOL it is screaming fast _ I have all 3 browsers on this computer. Pages open BAM! Thanks man! These recent shots are from a canon 40D and Canon 100mm Macro. I am wanting to upgrade but I need to quit buying coins for awhile if I do. I have shot with a more increased DOF, however I am convinced that the lens especially this macro lens starts picking up the plastic of the slab and diffuses the contrast. I am shooting a dedicated camera set up for just coins. Canon is my choice due to the software that allows you to view the coin on the computer before releasing the shutter.. Looking through a view finder or a 3" screen is just silly when I can find tune my focus and lighting and WB and my etc etc from a 25" view finder. My monitor. Get Mark Goodmans Book Numismatic photography as starting point for shooting coins. This is my Ghetto set up. Notice the coin under the lens on the monitor in the background.
I made a $1000 mistake with heritage. I thought there images were clean, now mind you all this is the one coin I am complaining about. I don't know if I was just unlucky or that this only applies to copper but ... Here is the Heritage Image. I should have known since the contrast is gone - yet I would expect to see very even and clear fields for a 67RD.. Now this is my image of the coin . Keep in mind that my images do exaggerate the contrast on some the hits and dings however the coin in hand matches my images much better than theirs.
I'm using the older Canon software. The image only shows after it is taken. I can still make adjustments and take the shot with the mouse but have to wait a second to see the results. I wonder if the new software will work with the Rebel XT? It would be really cool to shoot in real time.
I am fairly certain that I have read that the Rebel can be tethered for a live view. Here! try this link for more info: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081017224446AAxa5mT I found another new option in PhotoBucket that provides thumbnail link which should stop the oversizing of the forum. Gimme some Feedback regarding how these links work for everyone.
