GRRR!!! I had all my coins in a plastic bin. I had each domonination in its own ziploc. It was sitting on the floor in my room. And my SISTER spilled a cup of sweet tea in it!!! I did have some loose change in there, but not too much...But my mom had just gotten me 2 more rolls of Buffalo P nickels, and they were just sitting in there. So those 2 rolls have tea on them. :'( I looked at the end nickels and they didnt seem to have any tea on them, but you can certainly tell that something got on them from the wrapper. So should I open the roll and put them in a new roll if they have any more vaule to them? Or should I just spend them now?

well, you can keep them - that way everytime something like that happens again - you can say 'If I had a nickel for every time.... oh wait... I guess I do, see?!'

Seriously, that's unfortunate. As for the rolls - the paper is pretty thick, but I would imagine you're taking some chances, due to the stickyness of the sugar etc. And yeah, it will most likely effect the resale value in the future.

You know, you might just want to take them back to the bank, and see if you can trade them in for new bank rolls. The banks don't care if they've been spilled on, so let them figure it out. Just a thought. As for the loose change, etc. I would rinse them with water and dab them dry. I would also replace all your zip lock bags - and it might be a good time to consider something a little more protective for storage.

I immeadiatly rinsed off the loose coinage and the zip locks. I washed out the bin too. And now I have them in a far corner of my room where no tea, or any other drink for that matter, should go lol.

It pays to have a bottle of demineralized or distilled water around to do a final rinse after something like that. Then you can let them air-dry without having to abrade the coins.

That sounds like a good tip!
