Just a question. I picked up this Reeded edge Bust Half a few months ago online. I knew from the photo that it had a die crack, and to me that just gave it personality. Execpt for a small rim ding at 8 o'clock on the obverse, the coins looks great. When I got the coin, I noticed that the reverse was offset as indicated in the photo. My question is, is the offset common, along with the die crack, or does it add to the value. I love the combination. A hard to find coin with an interesting story. Your thoughts and grading comments ar requested. Thank
The rotation, from my understanding, is very common on early 19th century coinage, and doesn't really command a premium until the latter part of that century. However, I may be mistaken...
Congrats, that is one beautiful coin. I like the die crack and rotated die which certainly add at least intrest and probably a small premium. I think its possible it had an old cleaning but the color is sweet, good find.
OK, now you got my attention. I missed that. Where do you see it?. I do see an area below the eagle's beak that I was wondering about.
yep and then it comes out above his beak and starts heading to the right where i begins to go down toward his right wing
Also I know it pretty common for this coin to have poorly struck reverse denticles but in this condition its odd to see no trace of them at all. Im sure somebody will be able to pinpoint the variety for you soon enough
KerPlunk! That was my heart stopping. Haven't weighed it, but I will. I showed it to my local dealer after I got it, and he graded it EF. Don't know how closely he studied it. I 'll take it to him and have him weigh it and study it closer. Other than the weight, what do I look for?
Weight will probably be you best awnser but I would assume that the porus look of the coin is what is raising dougs flag. I just dont know if they would go as far as die clashing and die cracks. but I guess if you dont expect it then they will do it. good luck
Just got back from the dealer. Coins weighs 13.2g .vs 13.36 original. Dealer stated 99.9% positive authenic coin. Wear pattern, including edge wear, and color are correct. Feel much better.
