(off-topic... not a coin) Ancient synagogue mosaic may depict Alexander the Great

    Thanks for sharing. I had heard about this but never seen anything. Did you really look at the mosaic? Wonder work considering the time period.
     
  5. I believe the only source we have of the meeting was written by Flavius Josephus, in the "Jewish Antiquities," Chapter 11.
    Alexander was allegedly going to besiege Jerusalem, but for some reason (which I can't remember,) Alexander decided to meet with the High Priest, Jaddus, first. During their meeting, Jaddus showed Alexander the Book of Daniel in which Jaddus believed Daniel was prophetically referring to Alexander. Alexander concurred, was amazed, and offered sacrifice in the Temple.

    Pretty neat story; though many tend to lean toward the story not being historical.
    Too bad the Mosaic didn't predate Josephus. It would have lent a little more credence to the historicity of the story.
