I went to the local coin shop..looked around in the goodie basket for a while.. then showed him the war nickle set..he said it's a nice set and average conditoion was ms64..maybe 1 65.. didnt take a lot of time to study them. Then I showed him the new 2004 westward Journey nickle set. said he dosent carry them as he doesn't think they will ever be woth much..but if I liked them thats what counts. Finally I showed him the 3 steel lincolns I bought from ebay...all advertised as gem bu..He said they looked dipped or reprocessed. I wanted a second opinion so here is the link. I didnt loose too much if they are and already left pos. feedback. I may email him to see if he will trade for something comparable. Please see the link and let me know what you decide. I bought some steelies from ebay a while ago...they are BU too...or supposed to be...I really dont know...since Ive never sees BU Steelies b4...anyway Ill post scans later..
Although they are hard to find, I have seen some genuine BU steel cents - not slabbed. The problem with them is that the zinc coating separates and the surface gets all pitted and corroded. As far as this seller reconditioning them, I don't think so. I can't tell what I would grade them from the pictures because they are too small. But the only negative this seller has was as a buyer and it was retaliatory. Even if they're only MS63, they're nice to have and hard to find. It's getting harder and harder to find BU steel cents. I wouldn't regret the purchase as long as you are happy with how they look.
If you can provide me with a good hosting web site that will show LARGE pictures I can try that. The one I just found does not allow pics to be blown up that large.. I'm off for the next 3 days so i have plenty of time.. Already cleaned today and did laundry..i'm running out of things to do so I have to spread them out...
Email them to me at susanlynn9@comcast.net. I'll host them on my image server and post the links here for you.
Sorry it took so long, Gil. But here they are: http://members.sparedollar.com/Bobby131313/steel-pennies1.jpg http://members.sparedollar.com/Bobby131313/steel-pennies2).jpg It's been a brutally busy afternoon I tried to crop and blow them up but the details were lost. I would suggest picturing or scanning each coin separately and cropping them so only one coin is in the picture. Size it to at least 4" (6" would be even better) and then email them again. I don't mind if there are 20+ pictures. I have the space to host them for a while. Here is an example of what I mean: http://members.sparedollar.com/Bobby131313/BS-0112-1830Half-01.jpg http://members.sparedollar.com/Bobby131313/BS-0112-1830Half-02.jpg

Thanks for your opinions and help !!!
...there's an error when I open your last 3 links: " Unhandled error 0x00000000 in _davGetPhotoAlbumPath, QueryAlbum: " BTW: You can try uploading your pics to www.imageshack.us ...no subscription or anything needed...just upload them
Hi Gil, Unfortunately, your pictures can't be viewed without an MSN passport, so I can't see them. You can either follow Ivan's suggestion or email them to me again. Don't worry, we'll get this working
try this..if it doesnt work..I give up !!!!! don't be mad - we'll get this fixed up for ya here in a few minutes GDJMSP
Let's try this. Don't give up because it's my fault that this ended up so large. I should have told you to do it at 96 d.p.i. at the size I said. So you can be mad at me. Give me a little while to get the other images shrunk to this size and then everyone will be able to see them.
Thanks Doug. It was not easy editing my post to add the pictures with the screen so wide. Take a look at the pictures now, guys. They seemed okay to me.
The coins do seem to be a bit shiny - so your dealer may be correct about them being reprocessed. But to be honest - this is one of those things it is impossible to tell for sure without the coins in hand. So the coins may be just fine - the do seem to have proper detail for unc coins.
Gee, I guess I should have posted my opinion of the grade when I posted the pictures To be honest, the BU ones I've seen have been very shiny, so that doesn't surprise me. I agree with Doug that the details look uncirculated.
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP....THE SECOND SITE DIDNT GIVE ME AN OPTION TO RESIZE. IT WAS PRETTY FRUSTRATING...THANK YOU AGAIN. -Gil
