I’ve had this coin in my collection for a while and never paid much attention to it. I’m not an error collector and don’t know much about them.

My question for the experts. . . Is it worth sending off to PCGS or NGC? Or am I best to just put him back in the box?

That's a nice error. But no point paying to slab it, as it doesn't require authentication. A nice keeper. Anyone would like to have that.
I think it's just "off center", or "off center strike".

Get some VerdiCare on that coin to protect that open zinc or you’ll have this next time you pull out that coin. DREADED ZINC ROT! Zinc rot is like bread mold, it’s not if but when.
