I have just today come in possession of an interesting misstruck coin. It is an Indian 5 rupee coin, the strike is off-center on both sides. As you can see from the photograph, it is fairly well worn and clearly has been in circulation for a long time. All of the dates and information are clearly legible and the edge design is clear, with the exception of the fact that at the bottom, by the 2000 year, the pattern is mysteriously gone -- the edge pattern is instead entirely smooth at that point. What is the value of this? Is anyone interested in it? As I am completely new to this sort of thing, I would stand by the community to help me here figure out what its value is and who might want it. Thank you.
Pretty cool, the correct terminology is off-center. I have no idea what these would be worth but I'd suspect at least a couple bucks if they are not common.
:welcome: to CT! A 2003 off center indian 5 rupees coin was sold for about $7 (http://www.ebay.in/itm/2003-INDIA-ERROR-5-RUPEES-COIN-OFF-CENTER-MIS-STRUCK-/120524120067). Not sure on the value of yours, though. Let's just wait for a professional.
That coin actually did not sell, and the price was 300 rupees, which is less than $7 USD. The coin posted by the OP is worth in the $30 to $50 range if being sold by a reputable dealer on eBay. This is slightly higher than the price range I have observed for other modern Indian coins in smaller denominations.
