Two recent off center error coins I got have (I think) what looks like a DDO, Trails, and possibly a DDR. That made me wonder if something the way the mint strikes a coin off center increases the odds of other errors, like double strikes, ddos, and etc. Anyone have any insight that would be appreciated. Here are the pics of coin 1_ Thanks for any/all opinions, thoughts and information on this matter.
IMHO I think with all the slippage from it being out of the collar that there is no way to grade it (*or evaluate other potential error types)... aside from the fact that there's no date ascribed to it, so you can't attach it to a given year. I have a coin that is very similar... I bought it at auction when I was knee high to a grasshopper... won it at $6.00..... but without a date, all I can say for certain is that it is pre-1986, cause that's the year I bought it...
There is doubling correct. Or am I seeing things. I have recently gone through a lot of circulated change to the point my eyes hurt. lol
No, what you have there is die deterioration doubling. Not a doubleD Die obverse nor a Doubled die reverse. A doubled die occurs when the die gets struck by the master die, shifts slightly, and shifts slightly and gets struck again.
An off-center strike has absolutely nothing to do with a doubled die. A true doubled die results from doubling created on the hub or working die. Chris
