Found this off centered 1982 penny in a roll of coins. Can anyone tell me if it's off centered enough to be worth anything? I don't know much about off centered coins so any help would be great? Thanks - Esky
I'm not the best person to say, but if memory serves they need to be 15% or more off center to carry much premium and then it depends on the grade. You might get a buck or two on ebay.
Hi, Is the reverse as off-center as the obverse? The reasomn I ask is that if the reverse looks normal and the obverse is off , such as this on is, then the coin was struck with a misaligned obverse die. That is different than an off center sruck coin. Either way, it would not be worth that much. have Fun, Bill
Hey Bill - The back of the coin is centered correctly. It costs $.50 cents to list on E-Bay another $.50 to ship... Do I have a reasonable chance to get at least $1.50 in bids for it??? What means do I use to measure to see if I'm at or near 15% ? Thanks guys for your help - Esky
Hi, No, You would lose money on Ebay. It is a misaligned die, probably worth 10 cents to 25 cents tops. The percentage has some bearing but the general rule of thumb is that there must be some detail missing. What you have is very, very common and has very little premium. Yours is off by less than 5%. Have Fun, Bill
Good information to know - Thanks for the help! I'll keep looking for something good heheh Take Care - Esky
General rule of thumb....if your going nuts trying to figure out the % off center....until complete lettering and/or numbering is off the edge (missing), you won't see any real rise in value.
I would have to say it's not worth anything, I posted a few coins just like this and everyone who posted said it's nothing real special. Sorry.
